In <a href=\"https:\/\/infectnet.org\/en\/web\/mitglied.php\/?id=107\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Christina B. Karsten's<\/strong><\/a> research group, she is investigating the sugar coating of the HI virus and how antibodies recognise it.<br>She herself has benefited from strong women in her own family and would like to raise awareness of female role models in science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/infectnet.org\/en\/web\/mitglied.php\/?id=232\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Eva M\u00fcller<\/strong><\/a> is also doing her PhD at the same institute and is investigating HIV latency in her doctoral thesis, i.e. how the pathogen integrates itself into the genome of certain cells and thus hides from the immune system.<br>Her mother and her best friend showed her early on that women are allowed to be loud, express clear opinions and shape their lives beyond traditional role models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/infectnet.org\/en\/web\/mitglied.php\/?id=217\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Isabel Zydek<\/strong><\/a> is a doctoral candidate at the <a href=\"https:\/\/infektiologie.uk-essen.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Department of Infectious Diseases<\/a> and is conducting research into immunotherapies for infections caused by the herpes simplex virus.
