Infect-Net in BIOspektrum

Article on the network presentation and gender distribution in the specialist societies in the current issue of BIOspektrum

Infect-Net spokesperson Prof Dr Gabriele Pradel and our coordinator René Lesnik have presented our network initiative for female infection researchers in the March issue of the scientific journal BIOspektrum. With this publication, we hope to become better known and draw the attention of many more female infection research scientists to our network.

In this article, we summarise the motivation, goals, mission and challenges of establishing an association of German female infection researchers.

The article is available in the print edition and can also be read online, but not as an open access article. The article can be accessed via the following link:

Gender distribution in the professional associations

How individual subjects and advanced career stages in science are occupied by men and women is relatively well documented. But what is the gender ratio at the grassroots level and on the boards of the scientific societies?

Dieser Frage ist Prof Dr Katharina Kubatzky investigated this question for her presentation at our 4th network meeting at Cologne University Hospital in November last year. The Managing Director of the Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology e.V. (GBM) compiled and analysed data with representatives from selected specialist societies.

The results of the lecture have now also been published in the same issue of BIOspektrum and can be accessed via the following link:

The long road to gender parity

Katharina Kubatzky provides an assessment of the development of these figures, what some specialist societies are doing better and suggestions for giving women a greater say in the process in another editorial, which can be accessed here:

We hope you enjoy reading it and hope that one or two female scientists will decide to take up a position on the Board in the future.

BIOspektrum is a joint journal of the specialist societies VAAM, GBM, VBio and the Society for Genetics.
