A Visit by Prof Dr. Sodeik - Virologist from Hannover Medical School
On 3 and 4 July 2025, we welcomed Prof Dr Beate Sodeik from the Institute of Virology at Hannover Medical School to our institute in Freiburg. Her visit was part of our seminar series and was accompanied by a varied scientific programme.
With Beate Sodeik on the journey of herpes viruses through cells and tissue
A Hitchhiker’s Guide through tissues and cells – The world according to the capsids of alphaherpesviruses
The focus was on her lecture entitled ‘A Hitchhiker's Guide through tissues and cells – The world according to the capsids of alphaherpesviruses,’ which took place on 3 July in the lecture hall of the Institute of Virology. In her presentation, Beate Sodeik provided exciting insights into the intracellular journey of alphaherpesviruses and highlighted the role of capsids in interaction with cellular structures.

Personal and professional exchange is the basis of good networking
In addition to the lecture, there were numerous intensive discussions with institute members, postdocs and doctoral students. The discussions covered a wide range of current issues – from imaging strategies and viral transport mechanisms to methodological aspects in primary cell models.
A particular highlight was the personal exchange with young scientists during a convivial evening at the Opfinger Hütte. Professor Sodeik's visit was professionally enriching for all involved and a fine example of lively scientific networking.
